The Early Season Blues!
Over the past few weeks, we have had many players stop into the pro shop to talk and tell us how much they are struggling with the game. Every new golf season brings with it excitement and the motivation to play better. Nothing stops those thoughts more than a few bad rounds early in the season. We would like to give everyone a few words of advice and encouragement to get through those early spring rounds.
First, every new golf season means there was a 5-6 month winter layoff from playing golf. It will take some time to get back to midseason form. Try to give yourself a half-hour a day for 2-3 days a week to practice. Don’t forget to practice your short game. Approximately half of your shots taken each round will be within 20 yards of the green. You will definitely see an improvement.
Second, spring in the Northeast brings all sorts of surprises like plugged lies, lost balls, downed branches, and unlucky breaks. You should expect to lose a few shots here and there until the ground dries out and the golf course is in tip-top shape. I might add that the maintenance crew has done a great job cleaning up the golf course after the many ice storms we had this winter.
Keep up the hard work and it will pay off!
