Drills - Part III
This week continues our discussion on how you can improve your scores by breaking up the different parts of the swing. This week, we will start talking about how to break the swing down even more and work on the body. The following are two drills that you can do to separate the body from the arms.
Basketball Drill
This is a great drill to stop your body from turning too much. You will need to find a basketball or some type of round ball the size of a basketball and put it in between your legs. This will bow your legs and keep you from turning so much in the swing. It will also teach you the correct way to make an upper body turn. It will be a strange feeling as you swing, but it is a great drill to work on your turn.
Step In Drill
This is a great drill to teach you how to use the power of your body in the swing. Baseball players will like the similarity this drill has to swinging a baseball bat. You should set up the same way you would when you hit a golf ball at address. When you start to swing the club back, lift your left leg up into the air like a baseball player does when he’s about to hit the ball. As you swing the club back down toward the ball, you should put your leg back down on the ground and complete your swing. You should feel a tremendous amount of momentum when doing this drill.
Working on your body’s turn will help you swing better and improve your scores. Let us know if you have any questions.
