Putting it back together
The past few weeks we have given you several drills to improve your game. We started by separating your arms from your body and then continued by separating your body from your arms. We need to finish this series of drills and concepts by putting our swing back together. The following are some words of advice on how to do that.
Hit Full Shots
When attempting different drills, you can sometimes forget to hit full shots once switching back to your regular swing. You now need to trust that these drills have sunk in and hit full swings. On top of that, make sure you practice with all of the clubs in your bag. While we teach the same swing concept for all clubs, each club will react different because of the loft and length differences.
Pre Shot Routine
Now that we have worked on our swing, we must keep working on other areas to improve. One of those things will be the pre shot routine. We must develop a routine that is consistent so it works every time. This will help us set our bodies up to the ball get us aimed to our target the same way. We feel that by making your routine consistent, it will give you more confidence over the ball so you hit good shots.
Be Target Oriented
When trying new things, you can sometimes hit stray shots. You probably noticed this while working on these drills. Many times, we will tell our students who are working on swing changes not to worry about where the ball goes. Instead, they should be working on improving their swings. Now that we are improving and our shots are going straighter and farther, we can now get back to aiming and practicing to different targets. This should help you when you get out on the golf course and need to hit to different fairways and greens.
Use Your Imagination
Many times, our students will tell us that they cannot take their games from the driving range to the golf course. They will describe certain shots and holes that they cannot play well. The best way to get over this problem is to imagine that you are on that hole and practice playing that certain shot on the driving range. Pretend that you have to hit a 150 yard approach shot to the first hole on Blue or that you need to hit a 200 yard drive on 5-Red to stay short of the water. This way, you can make practicing fun while working on those tough shots that always stump you.
These are some fun and interesting ways to take your game to the next level. You have already done all of the hard work. Now, go practice and play and have fun doing it!
